Enfants de la mer et du vent
Nés du Dieu Vane Njörd, Freyr et Freyja vivent parmi les Ases depuis la trêve entre les Dieux.
Première parmi les Valkyries, déesse guerrière de l’amour et de la fertilité, Freyja possède dans les cieux une grande demeure, elle y reçoit la moitié des guerriers morts au combat ; Odin obtenant l’autre moitié. Quand Freyja voyage, elle conduit un char que tirent deux chats. Noble et belle, Freyja a épousé Odr dont elle a eu deux filles et qu’elle pleure depuis qu’il est parti au loin. Ses larmes sont d’or rouge et se transforment en ambre lorsqu’elles tombent dans la mer.
Magicienne, elle maîtrise et enseigne à Odin la Sejðr, cette transe chamanique qui lui permet de connaître le destin des Nornes. Enfin, Freyja possède le collier des Brisingar qui la rend irrésistible aux yeux des hommes et des dieux : volé par Loki, il lui sera rendu par Heimdall.
Dieu de la paix et de la prospérité, Seigneur des Elfes, Freyr a pouvoir sur la pluie et sur l’éclat du soleil, et par là sur les récoltes. Il possède Skidbladnir, le meilleur des bateaux, qui obtient toujours un vent favorable quelle que soit la direction dans laquelle il doive aller et peut se plier comme un linge et se mettre dans une poche. Freyr monte un char tiré par Gullinbursti, un sanglier aux soies d’or.
Il est l’époux d’une Géante, Gerd, dont il tombe amoureux lorsqu’il l’aperçoit depuis le trône d’Odin. Pour gagner son amour, il met en gage son épée qui a le pouvoir de combattre seule. Au soir du Ragnarök, il se trouvera désarmé face à Surt et sera le premier à mourir.
Children of the sea and the wind
Born of the Vanir God Njörd, Freyr and Freyja have been living with the Æsir since the end of the war between the Vanir and the Æsir.
First of the Valkyries, the warlike Godess of love and fertility Freyja possesses a great heavenly residence where she receives half of those that die in battle, whereas the other half go to Odin’s hall, Valhalla. When Freyja travels, she rides a chariot driven by two cats. Beautiful and noble Freyja has married Óðr and has got two fair daughters. While Óðr is absent, Freyja stays behind and in her sorrow she weeps tears of red gold that are changed into amber when they fall in the sea.
As a witch, she masters and teaches to Odin the Sejðr, that is a kind of chamanism that allows her to know the Destiny. Moreover, Freyja owns the necklace Brísingamen that makes her irresistible for the men and the Gods : stolen by Loki, it will be returned thanks to Heimdall.
God of peace and prosperity, Lord of the Elves, Freyr controls the rain and the sun shinning and so the harvests. He possesses Skidbladnir, which will have favoring breeze wherever its owner wants to go and can also be folded together like a napkin and carried in a pouch. Freyr rides a cart driven by a the boar Gullinbursti whose mane glows to illuminate the way for his owner.
Freyr is the husband of Gerðr, a beautiful giantess. He has immediately fallen in love with her since he saw her from Odin’s throne. To convince her to meet him, he has to give up his own sword-which is so good that it fights of itself. But the result at Ragnarök, the end of the world, will be serious. Freyr is fated to fight the fire-giant Surt and since he does not have his sword he will be defeated.
